Most optimizers work with storage, where the resource is known. wattimize optimizes wind and solar — co-located with batteries, or without them. An intermittent asset does not choose when it produces; it chooses whether to offer, where, and at what price. That is where the value sits.
What we deliver is the distribution, not the point
The market has concentrated on batteries, which do what they are told. Wind and solar do not — and they are the majority of what is installed across the Peninsula.
The flexibility of a renewable asset lies in its ability to curtail, available at all times and without additional investment.
Output is estimated from the plant’s own weather station, using a conversion function fitted to that asset’s history. When curtailing is the better outcome, the asset is curtailed and is still paid for its deemed energy. The arrangement requires the ability to control the asset remotely.
Downward reserve from capacity that is already installed, with no additional investment. Today, almost always unremunerated.
We deliver the distribution, publish the calibration check, and state what the month’s error cost.
wattimize weather →Meteorological ensembles with a conversion function fitted to the asset’s own history and recalibrated monthly.
Schedule, reserve and intraday closing are resolved together, because they are a single decision. The decision becomes a market schedule and a setpoint sent to the control centre.
A monthly report with what was offered in each market and the coefficient applied, verifiable against public data.
The decision becomes a setpoint sent to the plant, executed by the control centre and adjusted through the day. Without the ability to steer, optimisation is confined to whatever was nominated at D−1.
How we steer an asset →wattimize is paid on what optimisation generates above the client’s reference. No gain, no share.
The interest is the same on both sides: we only earn when the asset earns more than it would without us.
Commercial model →The resource is uncertain and forecast error is the main source of cost. What changes from family to family is the shape of the error.
Relative imbalance per quarter-hour is roughly 2.4 times larger under unstable skies than under clear ones. The model is conditioned on sky regime before deciding.
SolarWind error is larger in amplitude and far more persistent. A phase error on a ramp holds for hours and accumulates.
WindA co-located battery shares its connection point with an uncertain source. It is optimised as one unit, not as two assets.
HybridThe market is Iberian; the licence is national. In Portugal wattimize operates today as the optimizer. In Spain, its own registration is in preparation.
Dispatch decisions are wattimize’s; representation and contracting sit with Gesto Comercialização.
LiveRegistration as a settlement-responsible party is in preparation, to represent and optimise in its own name.
In preparationThe group brings together renewables consultancy and development (Gesto Energia), the licensed market agent in Portugal (Gesto Comercialização) and wattimize.
We process the plant’s history, separating the weather effect from the dispatch effect, and quantify the result.
